PHYSICAL THERAPY

The major goals of our physical therapy (PT) program are (1) to enhance function and mobility and (2) to advance participation in home, school, and community activities.

When a need for PT services has been identified through the screening process, the physical therapist will plan appropriate programming and implement an individualized intervention specific to the needs of each student.

Physical therapy includes but is not limited to the following:

  • Teaching and practice of functional developmental, motor, and mobility skills
  • Therapeutic exercise for strengthening, endurance, and joint mobility
  • Balance and coordination activities
  • Support for recreation, play, and leisure
  • Adaptation of daily care activities and routines
  • Pre-vocational skills and community ambulation

Adaptive equipment assessments are ongoing, and we offer consultation to parents and guardians to help familiarize them with their child’s equipment. We will also accompany students to their orthopedic appointments to allow for optimal carryover. Collaboration with family, community agencies, and other service providers is always a priority.
