COMMUNITY OUTINGS

We place great emphasis on our students learning about the world around them by actually experiencing the world around them. As such, we take them out into the community as often as we can, to interesting and enjoyable places throughout Rhode Island that allow them to see, touch, hear, and smell all kinds of new things, inviting them to connect the lessons they learn in the classroom to their application in the real world.

Our summer program, in particular, is unique in that the weather and fewer time constraints cooperate to open up more places and activities to experience and explore. Traveling and working in small groups of faculty and students for close supervision and highly personalized attention, we venture out together to discover and investigate many opportunities our students are unlikely to experience in their day-to-day lives, such as:

  • Horseback riding
  • Sailing
  • Deep-sea fishing
  • Canoeing
  • Beach outings
  • Farm visits to see sheep shearing, milking parlors, and dairy cow feedings
  • Day camping with the Boy Scouts
  • Trips to Newport, Bristol, and Galilee

It’s not just the staff and families who aim to expose our students to the wider world. Our students themselves truly want and enjoy the chance to get out and explore, which is why we welcome ideas for field trips and visits to local establishments in the Providence area. Please email us if you have a suggestion or would be willing to host an outing at your facility!
